Medical Supervisor

Ten lives Club is looking for a compassionate and hardworking individual to:

  • Ensuring the humane treatment of the cats that are living in the shelter, overseeing facilities maintenance, and supervising medical staff and volunteers. Oversee the daily operations of animal care customer service.

  • Maintaining the highest levels of animal welfare, driving continuous improvements, ensuring communication and collaboration between departments, focusing on excellent customer service and adhering to best practices in animal welfare and shelter medicine.

  • Hiring, training, supervising, evaluating, and managing veterinary personnel to ensure effective and efficient operations of the shelter and related programs. Responsible for administrative oversight and achievement of organizational goals and objectives

Responsibilities include:

  • Create efficient clinic flow from surrender to adoption

  • Assess and ensure that facilities are properly maintained and up to code.

  • Staff and Organizational Management

  • Supervise and lead medical staff and volunteers. Schedule, develop and oversee operational procedures for staff, volunteers, and animal care; and assist with development of organizational structure.

  • Oversee training of staff and volunteers in best practices for shelter operations and animal care. Write procedures and policies and ensure employee compliance.

  • Manage our Veterinary team and work with our veterinarian to establish standards and practices.

  • Conduct regular medical staff and volunteer meetings.

  • Write, update and maintain SOP

  • Doing daily rounds checking on all cats

  • Handle all medical schedules (surgical, Dr and Foster)

  • Handle all medical Phone Messages

  • Assist in compliance with local and state government oversight agencies, ensuring that we meet all requirements and observe regulations. This includes agency reporting and paperwork related to animal care and regulatory requirements.


Key Skills and Experience

  • MUST HAVE 4-5 years Veterinary practice management

  • Compassion: Love of animals and kindness toward them and their helpers, fosters, and potential owners is a must.

  • Physical stamina: need to kneel, crawl, bend, and be on their feet.

  • Strong communication skills: Ability to interact and effectively communicate with staff members and volunteers the needs of the animals, and organizational management. Strong communication skills for responsibility and task allocation amongst staff and volunteers.


Licensed Veterinary Technician

Ten Lives Club is excited to be welcoming a second Veterinarian to our Team. With that we need an additional Veterinary Technician.

Ten Lives Club is a 501c3 cat shelter in Western New York with 13 additional adoption locations. We have two full time vets. Our location cares for strays and surrenders as well as offering a community clinic for reasonable cost spays, neuters, and other veterinary care. Our Vet Clinic provides spay/neuter & medical care to TLC residents, fosters & newly adopted sick cats. This position will work closely with our veterinarians, and other staff and volunteers. This position allows you to develop skills in shelter veterinary medicine, high volume spay/neuter clinics & emergency medicine.

Veterinary Technician Responsibilities:

  • Perform proper medical restraint techniques for cats & kittens.

  • Have sound mathematical knowledge of Veterinary Technician medicine in order to properly dose medications and or fluids.

  • Have general medical skills associated with triage, emergencies, hospitalized patients (follow and maintain a hospitalized cat’s treatment sheet), anticipate changes in cat’s status, and common/specialized diagnostic procedures.

  • Have general surgical skills associated with anesthesia and surgical procedures: instruments, sterile technique, surgical induction/recovery, and monitoring, specialized equipment. THIS IS A MUST

  • Perform high volume spay/neuter, intubation, phlebotomy, fecal samples and lab work.

  • Administer medication according to Veterinarian care plans for sick cats.

  • Ability to perform solely or in conjunction with a Veterinarian special procedures

  • Carry emergency vet line phone (shared responsibility with 2 other vet techs) 1-2 weeks per month to answer emergency questions from fosters and new adopters.

  • Assist as needed in transporting cats to other facilities for additional x-rays or dental work.

We are looking for:

  • Be courteous and professional with volunteers, new adopters, Veterinary staff, Management and other TLC departments regarding the health of TLC residents, fosters & post adopters.

  • A minimum of 1 year experience preferred

  • Weekend availability

  • Exceptional customer service skills and ability to communicate precisely

  • Compassionate, Calm, Team Player, Multi-Tasker and Strong Communicator

  • Ability to interpret medical records and record client history accurately

  • Knowledge in preventative care, surgical procedures and hospital flow

  • Ability to restrain pets in a low stress and safe manner.

  • Proficient in sample collection to include blood samples, urine, fecal and skin.

  • Ability to properly set up and process laboratory samples and tests

  • A self-starter with the desire to continue to advance one’s knowledge and skillset

  • Ability to receive constructive feedback in a professional manner

  • Answering phone calls, answering customer & foster questions, scheduling visits and procedures

  • Light filing, computer entry of files and basic use of Microsoft products is a must.

Skills and Experience:

  • Must have a valid NYS Veterinarian Technician license.

  • Prior experience working in a Veterinary clinic.

  • Demonstrates personal accountability to ensure that all responsibilities are completed effectively and in a timely manner.

  • Demonstrates approachability when dealing with the general public. Experience in interacting with the general public (customer service) preferred.

  • Demonstrates ability to create and encourage a positive work environment.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, i.e., ability to develop positive relationships with others and demonstrate sensitivity to the thoughts, feelings and perspectives of others.

  • Accurate, appropriate, clear and concise written and verbal communication skills. Strong listening skills.

  • Experience with or ability to learn basic Microsoft products including e-mail and timekeeping.

  • Knowledge of Shelterluv a plus, but not required

  • Able and willing to professionally advocate TLC and the TLC Medical team position on issues.

  • Willing to work on weekends/holidays/varying shift times.

  • Must want to work to further your own learning by asking questions and doing personal research.

  • Ability to lift and handle animals of varying sizes of cats and kittens, bending, stooping, and walking on a daily basis.

  • Must be able to perform strenuous manual labor. Ability to stand for long periods of time while performing work requiring concentration and manual dexterity.
