FOR A STRAY CAT OUT THERE…

Many of you may want to know how to help a cat in need. If you or someone you know finds a stray cat please call our HOTLINE NUMBER (716 646-5577). Do not email us regarding a stray cat situation! Please leave a detailed message on Line 3 and someone will get back to you as soon as possible. We receive over 50 telephone calls daily for cat adoptions and other situations/problems, so please be patient until we can return your call. If you call and the telephone keeps ringing and ringing, it means that the hotline voice mail is full we are dismayed to say. Keeping up with telephone messages is one of our greatest challenges. Please be persistent as eventually messages are cleared out. Our shelter is run with limited staff. Leaving a message is necessary as we do not have the financial means to hire someone to answer our telephones and personally speak with each caller. Another dream we hope to realize!

Before contacting us about a stray cat or personal cat surrender please make sure that you have exhausted other avenues. Place ads in the paper, contact family & friends about taking the cat, put up flyers, contact your vet office, etc. If you would like personal assistance with placing any type of paid ad to help the cat(s), we would be more than willing to help you with the proper wording to do so. For cats with behavioral problems such as aggression or urinating outside of the litter box, contact your vet first regarding possible conditions that may cause such problems. Keep in mind that we will work with you if you wish to keep that stray cat you find with low cost spaying/neutering services. An “extra” cat may not be as expensive as you think with us offering you the “low cost spay/neutering services” reserved for those wishing to help stray cats that need help.

When surrendering a stray cat(s), we request a donation for each cat that we take in our program. This donation is so necessary as every single cat that enters the Ten Lives Club program is tested for Feline Leukemia (FIV),  spayed or neutered (if not already done), vaccinated against rabies, distemper, and the calicivirus (which has only recently hit our area of WNY), dewormed, and are treated for fleas, ear mites, and any illness/injury the cat may have. For those not willing or able to make a financial donation, we have volunteer opportunities in which you can help us for a few hours cleaning at the shelter or cages at one of the many stores our cats are shown for adoption. Where there is a will there is a way. TLC’s will is to help the cat. We depend on the public’s way to help us pay the expenses involved in saving the cat!
